A major aspect of ski instructor training is the ability to identify a skier's movements, whether the skis react effectively as a result of those movements, and what specific, identifiable adjustments can be made for improvement. Movement analysis (MA) is efficiently done in real time on a mountain where immediate feedback can be delivered and implemented.
Skiers of all levels take lessons. Learning from an instructor is very helpful from the outset so that bad habits can be identified and changed.
Various technical aspects of skiing are emphasized throughout professional ski instructor training and many can be summed up by the term progressions. Remember your first lesson and how it began with static boot movements on the snow, then gradually progressed to one ski, then both skis, gliding then stopping? These incremental exercises build a strong foundation, readily apparent when you find yourself skiing within the first hour of a lesson. Analysis and feedback are crucial to progress.
Videos are excellent for reinforcing what you learn on the snow as well as adding the depth of knowledge that comes from additional teaching perspectives.
